Crystal Manor folk tales

Billur Köşk (Crystal Manor), whose original name is "Hikâye-i Billur Köşk and Elmas Sefine", and has an exceptional place in the Turkish folk tale field, is a collection of 14 tales and has been published many times in Istanbul for over a hundred years. The printed copy of the book in Arabic letters dated Hijri 1332 (1916) was read and narrated in Latin letters, and then the text was analyzed using Axel Olrik's "Epic Rules of Folk Narratives" method, who is one of the members of the Historical- Geographical Finnish School. Although Billur Köşk tales do not contain the contextual elements, our primary goal in this study is to show their compatibility with the epic rules of folk literature and reveal that this complete work of oral culture environment is a product of folk narratives. In the introduction part, information is given about the subject, purpose, scope, and study method. In the first part of the study, the type of folk tales is emphasized, and in the second part, the book of Billur Köşk, and the local and foreign researchers who mentioned it are introduced. The third chapter is dedicated to Axel Olrik, the founder of the method we applied. After giving information about his life, academic life, systematic studies, and works, his way of determining the distinctive features of oral culture products of folk creation called "Epic Rules of Folk Narratives" was explained in detail. In the fourth and final chapter, the numbers of the folk tales in the book of Billur Köşk are given in Aath, EB type catalogs, as well as the themes and episodes; and Axel Olrik's method was applied to the 14 folk tales of the Billur Köşk tale book. In the analysis made in "Conclusion," as the "epic rules" were found in the structure of 13 of 14 examined folk tales, the opinion that they were compiled from the oral cultural environment in XIX. Century was formed. Undoubtedly, it is not just their compliance with Axel Olrik's method that shows that these narratives are compiled from the oral culture environment. Features such as narrative composition, style, expressions in the form of daily spoken language, and the use of some clichés show that the Billur Köşk tales stem from verbal expressions that are constructed through language and realized through listening. Also, the plot and most of the heroes have similar characteristics to those in the folk tale texts compiled before or after them, or that they are seen precisely, and the motifs they contain also show this opinion.
