Experiences of professionals working in the field of violence against women as an emergency

Violence against women is considered a significant human rights violation and also a social problem at national and international levels. The thesis study presents a comprehensive review focusing on the definition, historical development, types and different dimensions of violence against women. The aim of the research is to understand that violence against women is an emergency and to evaluate the effectiveness of theories and approaches developed to solve this problem. The thesis reveals the place and importance of various theories and approaches used in the definition of violence and the rights violations that women are exposed to solely because of their gender in national and international texts. Violence against women is seen as an urgent problem worldwide, and determining effective intervention methods is important, and strategies and methods have been included in the processes of countries in this fight. In the research process, successful examples of implementation on violence against women were examined, and interviews were conducted with public professionals providing services in this field in Turkey and members of civil society organizations working on women's rights. Participants included employees in management positions, academics, civil society representatives, social workers, psychologists, child development specialists, sociologists, lawyers, chief preachers and law enforcement officers, and 23 people were interviewed using a semi-structured interview form. The data obtained as a result of these interviews provide comprehensive information on the shortcomings, deficiencies, current practices and sample good practices encountered in combating violence against women. The results of the study determined the problems and deficiencies in implementation in combating violence against women; it also presented effective projects and examples of good practices. The research emphasizes the importance of planning services for women's needs and makes recommendations for the development of more effective and comprehensive intervention strategies in this area.
