Evaluation of parks as a network system: the example of merkez district in Burdur province

In the study, the number of park areas, their surface area, their distribution within the settlement structure, their service radius and their potential to contribute to the green network system in the Central district of Burdur province were examined. Park areas were evaluated on a neighborhood basis in two different groups as "existing park areas" and "potential park areas" according to their availability. While analyzing the service radii of the existing park areas, 500 m service radius for parks of 100-1000 m² and 1000 m service radius for parks of 1000-10.000 m² were taken as basis. These analyzes were carried out using the "Buffer method" in "ArcGIS Pro 3.0.2" software. As a result of the evaluation made within the scope of the Spatial Plans Construction Regulation, it was determined that only Tepe and Mehmet Akif Ersoy neighborhoods of 35 neighborhoods in the Central district of Burdur province have sufficient park areas per capita, while these areas are insufficient in the remaining 33 neighborhoods. As a result of the examination of potential park areas on a neighborhood basis, it was determined that all potential park areas, except Atatürk Neighborhood, are located within the service impact area of existing parks. This shows that these areas can be considered as park areas that support a neighborhood-based network system. The findings reveal that the existing park areas in the central district are insufficient in terms of creating a network system. It was determined that the existing service radii of the park areas were not taken into consideration and the network system was not planned. However, it is concluded that if the identified potential park areas gain a park identity, the relevant parks can be evaluated as a network system on a neighborhood basis.
