Health literacy is a bridge between individuals' literacy skills and abilities and health status. Health literacy is recognized as an important concept in patient education and disease management. This study is a cross-sectional study conducted in order to determine health literacy levels and related factors of the staff in an education and research hospital. The study was conducted between September 2018 and May 2019 with the staff of Konya Education and Research Hospital affiliated to the Ministry of Health. The population of the study consisted of 3239 people and the sample consisted of 1081 people. The questionnaire consisting of 20 questions and the European Health Literacy Scale were used as a data collection tool in the research. Before the study, an exercise application was performed in a hospital similar to the sample group and the comprehensibility of the questions was evaluated. Before the research, committee approval was obtained from SBU Konya Training and Research Hospital, research ethics committee approval from Konya KTO Karatay University Medication and Non-Medical Research Ethics Committee, written consent from the volunteers and required permissions from relevant researchers about the scales used in the research were obtained. The obtained data were evaluated in SPSS 21.0 program in computer. Descriptive statistical analysis (Mean, standard deviation, frequency, percentage), Student t test, One Way ANOVA, Pearson Correlation test were used in the evaluation of the data. The independent variables of the study are the characteristics of individuals and the dependent variable is the European Health Literacy Scale. According to the findings of the study, 53.7% of the participants were male and 46.3% were female and the mean age was 34.76 ± 7.80 years. 74.3% of the participants were married, 49.6% had undergraduate and above education level, 49.1% had permanent staff, 49.4% had lived in the city for the longest period, 51.4% has equal income and expenses and the working years is 9.81 ± 6.97. The level of health literacy of those with higher education levels, those who are doctors or nurses, those with high income levels, those with good health, readers and those who know the concept of health literacy was found to be high. Based on these results, it is advisable to evaluate health literacy levels in different sample groups and to include educational activities for risk groups.
