Patient and working safety are new healthcare disciplines that emphasizes the reporting, analysis, and prevention of errors that often lead to adverse healthcare events towards to patients and workers. This study is performed to determine the deficiencies in patient and working safety by investigating the opinions of nurses and physicians on these topics, to determine the essential training, protective equipments and physicial sites which are designated as insufficient on patient and working safety, to increase the awereness of healthcare workers on patient and working safety. This study which is conducted to determine the opinions of physcians and nurses in a training hospital in Ankara is a descriptive cross sectional study.The study is conducted in outpatient and inpatient clinics at Gulhane Military Academy Training Hospital. The number of nurses and physicians who are working in departments where healthcare activities are not performed is 171. Also 360 nurses and physicians were not on duty because of different reasons such as temporary duties in other institutions, birth day off, day off with or without any salaried, duty abroad etc.. The total number of physicians and nurses who are active for healthcare activitiesis 919. And 752 of them participated in the study. The participation rate is 80.2%. The survey is conducted as face to face interview method. SPSS for Windows 15.0 package program is used for data enter and analysis. Descriptive statistics are calculated and chi-square test, Fisher?s exact test, Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U test are used for comparisions. Statistical significance is accepted as p<0.05.74.9% of the participants marked the choices agree or completely agree for the statement ?Most of the important information related with patient care are not lost during shift changes?, 79.5% of them marked agree or completely agree choices for the statement ?Blood transfussion errors are not occured in our hospital?, 80.5% of them marked the same two choices fort he statement ?The shift changes are not problematic for patients in our hospital?. Statistically significant difererences are found for means of scores with respect to participants? education levels. The mean scores of the statements are statistically lower in license group than others. Statistically significant differences are found between groups with respect to their job positions. The mean scores of the statements in administator group are higher than the others. The mean scores are also found statistically different with respect to personel career. The differences are found because of the lower scores which are belong to intensive care and clinic nurses.It is important to receive the opinions of physicians and nurses on patient and working safety? Limited numbers of studies on patient and working safety in literature are supporting the importance of the topic. The studies which will be conducted on these topics will be guide for the preventive measures. Although the Patients Rights Regulation is valid since 1998, there is stil no regulation for working safety so it is very important to perform regulations on this very important topic.Key words: patient, working, patient safety, working safety, medical error
