Abstract (EN)
Subject of the study, we tried to analyse and comment on traditional brom making ?one of the professions that tend to vanish in Sakarya- from social, economical and a cultural point of wiev.This thesis contains three chapters. The subject-aim of the study, the importance of the study and the hypothesis are introduced in the prologue.It is explained description and classification of handicrafts and traditional handicrafts in Sakarya in the first part that contains general infarmation abaut traditional handivraftsIn the secand chapter, a general knowledge on broom making is given and a brief story of broom making in Sakarya and different kinds of brooms are explained. Chapter two describes the production site and the process. This chapter contains these subtitles; Broom making in Sakarya, The process of hand broom production, Information about a broom making atelier ,broom making process, broom marketing process, economical and social situation of broom makers, ateliers in Sakarya and place of broom making in the market, effect of social and technological metamorphosis on broom making and the problems of broom making and broom makersIn the third chapter, hand broom making is commented on from a social point of wiev.The results of the study and propositions are in the last chapter. At the end of the study, bibliography, resource people, suplementaries (interwiev forms, photos, demographical characteristics of broom makers registred to Chamber of Broom Makers in Sakarya between 1965-2008) and autobiography are included.
