Özet (EN)

Population growth, industrialization and technological innovations cause a continuous increase in global energy demand. Primary energy consumption in Turkey is estimated to reach 205.3 million toe in 2035, up from 147.2 million toe in 2020. This dependence on fossil fuels increases the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG), which are responsible for global warming. To counter the progression of global warming, initiatives are being implemented to steer society towards clean, renewable energy production methods that minimize harmful greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The search for alternative energy sources for electricity generation has led to the use of photovoltaic (PV), wind, hydro, biomass and fuel cells (FCs), among other energy sources. However, due to the intermittent nature of renewable energies, energy storage systems (ESS) need to be integrated into renewable energy systems to manage energy production surplus. The aim of this thesis is to design and analyze a photovoltaic system with hydrogen storage to meet the energy needs of a household. MATLAB software will be used for design and analysis. The high energy density of hydrogen and its long lifetime compared to chemical batteries will positively affect the system performance. Within the scope of the thesis study, it is aimed to analyze the overall efficiency of the system by comparing the performance of chemical batteries and hydrogen-based storage systems.
