The reflections of power-focused relationships a science teacher has experienced throughout his life on science teaching: An autoetnographic study from foucault's perspective

Foucault is a philosopher that examines how power relations are formed in institutions like schools, hospitals, asylums and prisons. In this study, where events are interpreted from the viewpoint of Foucault, the memories of the researcher were used as data, through the utilization of autoetnography. In this context, the researcher conducted recall activities regarding power relations that he has gone through throughout his life, from his birth until his professional years as a science teacher, and these activities have been checked by various peers in his life. Various thematic analyses were carried out on the recall texts that were generated, and "ideal teacher" and "ideal student" models, taken from the researcher's own sections of life, were investigated as to what they constitute. As a result of the study, the following five general themes were created: "Role Diversity Generation and Change, the Authority Hiding Itself, Not Letting Sacrifices, Capital and Its Transformations, and the Belief that the System Is Fair or Brings Justice". Upon interpretation of the generated themes, it has been revealed that power relations do not form and thrive in school environments, but rather they form in the society in general and take on specific shapes in schools. In this framework, it is recommended that mechanisms be put in place to enable the power-oriented relations, enforced on the society, schools, teachers and students by the authority, to be maintained in a more controlled fashion.
