Gnosticism as a Christian predicament

Abstract (EN)

The research on the origin and history of Gnosticism is an anresolved problem even in modern period research. In particular, the treatment of Gnosticism as an internal movement of Christianity or a pre-Christian thought system remains a central problem in the research of the History of Religions. The important context for us here is that we can take our own issue through one of the two different perspectives available. Because in both cases different results occur. In this sense, the central goal of our thesis is actually the ground of Gnosticism's encounter with Christianity and and the ways in which it infiltrates the core of Christianity. Therefore, We will first examine in the perspective of the historical backgrounds of Gnosticism as a historical process, its syncretic structure and the dimensions of encountering Christianity. Later, in the context of the grounds of Christianization of Gnosticism that started with Paul, we will examine how Gnosticism transformed within Christianity over time and how it Gnosticized Christianity. Key Words Gnosticism, Judaism, Christianity, Pauline Mysticism, Greek Mystery Religions.
