The concept of state as a form of power: The appearance of power in the early period of soviet cinema

Concepts acquire their meanings through the social relations in which they exist. Breaking the bond between the social relations and the state as a concept results in the ambiguity of the scope which is characterized by the state and the area of concept's usage. Therefore, approaches and discussions, related with the state, must be formed without breaking the existing bond. In this study, the frame of the power form indicated by the state and its scope of usage were discussed. The framework of the concept was defined with references to the origin and the approaches addressing the state as well as circumstances creating it. Its scope of usage was discussed via verifying conceptual framework by referring literature on two basis. Firstly, the discussion was constructed on socialist state through the basic concepts of Marxist theory and the history of Soviet Russia as a concrete base. Secondly, together with the relation between cinema and power, the early period of Soviet cinema were evaluated via policies of culture and education in Soviet Russia because of the importance given to the cinema. Within the constructed framework for the concept of state, seven movies from early period of the Soviet cinema were analyzed in order to maintain theoretic discussion upon the concrete basis.
