Abstract (EN)
Petroleum refining involves numerous physical separation and chemical conversion processes that have high energy consumption. The impact of global warming, one of today's most significant global issues, is increasing day by day. Therefore, it is becoming more important to enhance the energy efficiency of industrial facilities with high energy consumption and to carry out production with lower energy consumption by reducing energy losses. One of the most important tools used to improve the energy efficiency of thermal processes and reduce energy losses is energy and exergy analysis based on the second law of thermodynamics. In this study, the energy and exergy analysis of the naphtha reforming facility, where the octane number of products such as naphtha and gasoline is increased, located at the Salahuddin-1 Refinery in Baiji, Iraq, was conducted. The simulation of the facility under actual operating conditions was performed using the AVEVA Pro/II Process simulation program. In the simulation model, the hydrogen recycle flow rate fed to the catalytic naphtha reforming reactor was increased from 30,000 kg/h to 35,000 kg/h under real operating conditions. This proposed change resulted in a 2% increase in the energy efficiency of the reforming unit, a 1% increase in exergy efficiency, and a 0.71 MW decrease in exergy destruction.
