Abstract (EN)

Visual communication is the exchange of information between creatures which is formed merely by images. The fact that 'seeing' has come before 'speaking' is the foundation of communication. Thus, the ability of seeing is the most important element of it. The empiric nature of visuals has been shaped with ability of seeing of the creatures. With the existing experiences and data, the universe mechanism is constantly going through a new visual communication process. Each creature is enduring their formation with participating this cyclic nature. Humans have been (and will be) expressing the information they need verbally or non-verbally throughout whole communication stages. Today, the visual communication design which is also a part of communication process, has become such a powerful communication network with the ever growing and evolving technological resources. Eventually the ability of seeing getting intertwined with art and 'talking' through design which highlights the importance of visual communication. This study which is titled as "Visual Communication Design as a Common Language and Cases from Human Rights Foundations" is aiming to show visual communication is a common language and supporting this argument with the examples of social awareness campaigns. The thesis is consisting three chapters which is also exhibited and explained through posters with social content. In the case study chapter, there are international examples from various competitions, discussing visual communication design, the common language in other words, as a tool and a purpose of raising social awareness.
