Abstract (EN)
Wheel or palette type robots are usually used for explorations on flat surfaces because of simplicity of their mechanical, electronic and software implementations. But these robots are not quite applicable on rough terrains. Legged type robots are not fast as wheel types but have abilities to be operated successfully in rough terrains such as rocky or sandy areas, narrow paths, etc. Biped robots have relatively simple structures but they are hard to be balanced. On the other hand, as the number of legs increases the mechanical complexity also increases for multi-legged robots. In this study, it is aimed to develop an eight-legged robot with minimal mechanical and cabling complexity. Eight-legged explorer robot (ELER) was designed in SolidWorks and Matlab Simmechanics softwares and then succesfully be implemented using smart servo motors and 3D printing technique.
