Theorical and numerical modelling and optimization of combustion in internal combustion engines

Abstract (EN)

There are several software applications for CFD modelling of cold flow and combustion in internal combustion engines. The reliability of these applications are verified with previous studies. In preliminary studies prior to the experiment it is convenient to use two zone combustion model and CFD analysis methods. In this context, analysis of the TÜBİTAK Project that is planned to do experiments of divided and normal chamber single cylinder spark ignition engine are evaluated with two zone combustion model and CFD model. Two zone combustion model was used in normal chamber. CFD analysis were performed by using the G-equation for turbulent, partial premixed combustion method in divided and normal chambers. The obtained results are presented comparatively. These results include cylinder pressure, temperature, mass fraction, indicated power, indicated specific fuel consumption and indicated thermal efficiency. These calculations demonstrate variations of engine performance in different conditions. In this study, it is observed that methane use in divided chamber has an advantage at high compression ratios.
