Abstract (EN)

For the post graduate dissertation thesis titled as A Review on the Design of Perfume Packages as a Consuming Item According to the Graphic Design Principles fifteen randomly chosen woman perfume bottle and packages produced in 2017 by Europe and the United States located luxury brands have been analyzed according to the six main principles of graphic design. As an introduction, related literature scanned to define what design, graphic design and packaging design is as a special field of graphic design. Main concepts of all of these fields and the story of packaging studied to base the research. The six main principles chosen by elimination among the countless and defined and based for the research. The perfume bottle and packages designs of Brit for Her by Burberry, Splendida Iris D'or by Bvlgari, Privée by Carolina Herrera, Basier Fou by Cartier, Gabrielle by Chanel, Fruit d'Amour Turquoise by Emanuel Ungaro, Bronze Goddess by Estée Lauder, Si Rose Signature by Giorgio Armani, Live Irrésistible Delicieuse by Givenchy, Mon Guerlain by Guerlain, La Nuit Trésor by Lancôme, Lady Emblem L'Eau by Mont Blanc, Les Gourmandises de Luna by Nina Ricci, La Femme Intense by Prada, Eternity Summer by Calvin Klein analyzed according to the principles of design called unity / harmony, balance, hierarchy, size / proportion, dominance / emphasis, and similarity / contrast. As a conclusion it is found out that the designs of all the fifteen perfume bottle and packages are depending on the principles of unity / harmony, balance, hierarchy, size / proportion, dominance / emphasis, and similarity / contrast. The relation between the elements of color, texture, form, size, font, and typographies, visual and verbal elements organized after these principles as seen in the part of findings in detail. There are visual reflections on the perfume bottle and packages of the scents of natural materials used by producing perfumes. The forms of bottle, lid and body, colors used, chosen fonts, sizes are preferences made by conscious. The corporate identity images, the main fields of study and sides, past experiments and logotypes, the gender, social statue, demands and requirements, which are main decisive qualifications of the target group of the brands, the sense of worthiness, and the wish to have precious items as the main forms of existence of human being can be seen as material, color and form, and reflected on the bottle and package designs.
