The Comparition of urine bisphenol a levels between breastfeeding and bottle feeding Turkish infants in 1-3 months

Objective: Bisphenol A is a monomer used in the production of polycarbonate plastics mostly used in the production of common household objects such as water bottles, baby bottles and other food containers. Bottle feeding is thought to be an source of exposure to BPA during infancy. This study investigates infant exposure to BPA during bottle feeding in Turkish infants between 1-3 months. Material and Methods: The study included 75 breastfeeding and 75 bottle feeding healthy infants between the age of 1-3 months. The birth records and the andropometric and demographical characteristics were recorded at administration. Urine BPA levels were measured in every study sample with. liquid chromatography- tandem mass spektrometry (LC-MS). All data were analyzed by using SPSS 27.0 program. Data are expreessed as means ± standart deviations. Mann-whitney-u test and Spearmann correlation analysis were used to analyze the data P values ˂ 0.05 were considered as statistcally significant. Results: The urine BPA-A levels were not statisticillay different between breatfeeding and bottle feeding infants (p˃ 0.05). The urine Bisphenol-A-glucuronid / Bisphenol-A ratio in breast fed infants was higher statistically significant than formula fed infants (p = 0.009). The urine Bisphenol-A/creatinin and Bisphenol-A-glucuronid / Bisphenol-A ratio were higher in girls than boys significantly (p = 0.001, p = 0.02). No significant correlations were found between serum BPA and age, body weight, birth weight, and gestation age (p˃ 0.05). Conclusion: Bottle feeding seems not to increase the risk of exposure to BPA-A in 1-3 months old infants in our country.
