Sociodemographic characteristics, reasons for consultation and evaluation of the psychiatric diagnoses of patients consulted to a university hospital child psychiatry outpatient clinic

Objectives: The aim of this study is to retrospectively examine the psychiatric consultations required for children and adolescents who are receiving inpatient and outpatient treatment at Afyonkarahisar Health Sciences University Medical Faculty Hospital. Methods: The records of the outpatient and inpatient treatment patients who were consulted between 1.1.2012 and 1.6.2018 were reviewed (scanned) retrospecti-vely. Consultation Information Form by researcher; the sociodemographic infor-mation of the patients, the reason for requesting the consultation, the reason for requesting the consultation, the medical diagnosis of the patient, the psychiatric diagnosis after the evaluation and the recommended treatment data. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 program. Results: A total of 818 children and adolescents with outpatient and inpatient psychiatric consultations were requested within 4 years and 6 months. Of the 818 patients evaluated, 57.3% were female and 42.71% were male. Of the cases, 52.9% were inpatients and 47.1% were inpatients. The most frequent consultation clinics were general pediatrics (38.8%), pediatric emergency (17.4%) and pediat-ric neurology - neurology (8.2%) clinic. 23.3% of the patients did not have a psychiatric diagnosis. Psychiatric diagnoses were mostly adjustment disorder ( 11.1%), depressive disorder (9.8%) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (7.6%). It was determined that 11.5% of the cases attempted suicide. Medical tre-atment was administered to 52.9% of the evaluated cases. The most common SSRI group antidepressant drugs (22.4%) have been proposed. Sertraline (14.7%) was the most commonly recommended psychotropic molecule. Conclusions: In this study, Psychopathology has been determined at high rates in children and adolescents who require psychiatric consultation from patients who are receiving outpatient or inpatient treatment. It is thought that collaboration between clinics is important for the healthy functioning of the consultation pro-cess. It is recommended to increase the cooperation with the emergency department and to improve the physical conditions for psychiatric evaluation in emergency de-partments due to the fact that the pediatric emergency service is the second most frequently requested unit. In our country, under the leadership of Turkey Associa-tion of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, a common evaluation will be useful for consultation and preparation of appropriate therapy is considered widespread use of KLP guide behalf.
