Investigation of the relationship between problem solving skills and teamwork attitudes of nurses working in a foundation university hospital

This study was carried out in descriptive and cross-sectional type in order to examine the relationship between problem solving and teamwork attitudes. The sample of the study consists of nurses who meet the inclusion criteria and worked in the Koşuyolu and Kozyatağı branches of a private medical faculty and teaching hospital between 24.04.2023 and 24.05.2023 (n=200). Data were collected using the "Sociodemographic Information Form", "Interpersonal Problem Solving Inventory" and "Teamwork Attitudes Scale". SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 26.0 program was used for statistical analysis of the study. In the analysis of data, percentage, mean, standard deviation, arithmetic mean, parametric tests One Way ANOVA, Student's t test; non-parametric tests Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U test and Pearson correlation test were used. When the demographic characteristics of the participants were examined, it was determined that 87.5% of them were women, 50.5% were 25 years old and under; It has been determined that 75.5% of them are single, 36.5% of them have low income and 66.5% of them have a bachelor's degree. It was determined that female nurses felt more insecure about problem solving than male nurses. It was seen that the problem solving and teamwork attitudes of the nurses whose income is more than their expenses according to the income status of the nurses made a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). Within the scope of the research, it was observed that as the education level of the nurses increased, their teamwork attitudes were positively affected, but their problem-solving skills were not. In addition, when the teamwork attitude and problem solving skills of the participants were compared, it was found that there was a positive significant relationship between the total score of teamwork and the sub-dimensions of constructive problem solving and persistent perseverance (p<0.05). It is recommended that studies comparing the relationships between nurses' interpersonal problem-solving skills and teamwork attitudes should be conducted with larger sample groups and training on the importance of in-service problem-solving skills and teamwork should be increased.
