Abstract (EN)

Passing out to be in use of teology, today hermeneutics became a distinct form ofthinking for human sciences, literature and art. In the midst of modernist and post-modernist debates, hermeneutics can be thought as an initiation for emancipatingsciences and methods from the narrow scientific point of view by studying culturalobjects both historically and structurally with a philosophical engagement. For thatreason, on the problem of understanding and interpration of the work of art which is acomplex and multi-vocal cultural object, hermeneutics presents a broader possibility asno philosophical approach can do. Instead of seeing the work of art as a pure aestheticstructure, a form of seeing that relates the work of art with whole culture and history, isthe most meaningful way to avoid dealing with it as a dead historical object. The wayof analysing the paintings of Erol Akyavaş which is formed with hermeneuticalparadigms in a though relation with history and myth, is the hermeneutics itself. Thecommon point of all the Islamic and Eastern symbols and signs in Akyavaş?s painting isthe freedom of interpretation that transcends the oriantalist approach. Today, it is anecessity to analyse Erol Akyavaş?s painting which has been studied rarely despite ofits richness of interpretation.
