Abstract (EN)
Aim: This study was conducted to examine the relationship between social media addiction, FOMO and psychological well-being in individuals. Materials and Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 315 individuals living in Turkey between February and August 2024. R programming language 4.1.3, G*Power 3.1 and SPSS-22 program were used in the analysis of the study. Resuts: In our study, it was determined that the model established by hierarchical regression analysis was significant and usable (F(2,312)= 32.713, p=0.001). Social media addiction level and FOMO levels together explain 17.3% (R2=0.173) of the total variance in "Psychological well-being" level. In the regression model, when the t-test results regarding the significance of the regression coefficient were analyzed; it was determined that the increase in the participants' social media addiction level (t=-5.829, p< 0.001) and the increase in the FOMO level (t=-2.528, p< 0.001) caused a statistical decrease in the level of "Psychological well-being". According to Shapley Values in the prediction made with the machine learning approach, the most important variable in the prediction of the psychological well-being variable was determined as Social Media Addiction. Conclusion: As social media addiction and FOMO increase, the level of psychological well-being decreases. Longitudinal studies on the effects of social media on psychological well-being are recommended. Keywords: Addiction, FOMO, Machine Learning, Psychological Well-Being, Social Media Addiction.
