Examination the influence of sexual satisfaction on body image and eating behavior

In this study, the effect of body image and eating attitude on sexual satisfaction in adult individuals was investigated. 352 adult individuals participated in the study. Socio-demographic information form, Eating Attitude Test, Body Perception Scale and Golombok-Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale for Women and Men were administered to the participants. Independent sample t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to compare research variables. Pearson correlation was applied to examine the relationship among eating attitude, body image and sexual satisfaction levels of the participants. According to the research findings, body image and eating attitude show significant differences in terms of gender, relationship status, psychiatric diagnosis, diagnosis of chronic disease, place of residence, psychiatric history in the family, education level, and income level. Male and female sexual function problems, relationship status, psychiatric diagnosis, chronic disease history differ significantly in terms of variables. A significant relationship was found between the frequency of female sexual function problems and body image. In addition, a significant relationship was found between communication, one of the sub-dimensions of female function problems, and impaired eating attitude. Frequency and satisfaction sub-dimensions, which are male sexual satisfaction sub-dimensions, were found to be significantly associated with body image. The findings obtained in the study were found to be partially related to male and female sexual function problems, body image dissatisfaction and impaired eating behavior. The results obtained are discussed with the relevant literature and suggestions for further studies are presented. Keywords: Body Image, Eating Behavior, Sexual Satisfaction, Social Appearance Anxiety
