Individuals' level of getting psychotherapy and their knowledge and perception about psychotherapy

In this study, the aim was to identify the opinions about mental health services and psychotherapies of individuals who applied to a psychiatry clinic. The study was carried out with individuals who applied to Psychiatry Clinic of Nazilli State Hospital. 240 individuals who were chosen by systematic sampling method were included to the study. In the study, to identify individuals' opinions about mental health services, their levels of getting psychotherapy services and their knowledge and attitudes about psychotherapies, Mental Health Services Questionnaire consisting of 30 items as well as sociodemographic information form which were generated by the researcher were used. 42.9% of the participants got mental health help previously. 6.79% of these people who got mental health help previously got psychotherapy while 2.91% of all participants got psychotherapy. No statistically significant difference was found between the levels of application for mental health help and age, gender, education level and occupations. It was found that the group of widowed, divorced and separated people applied for more psychological help. While there was no significant difference between levels of participants' hearing the word psychotherapy before, knowing psychotherapy after the definition given and age, gender; there was significant difference between them and education, marital status and occupation. No significant difference was found between age, gender, marital status, occupation and the total attitude to psychotherapy. There was significant difference between educational levels and attitudes to psychotherapy.
