Abstract (EN)
In this study, in order to examine the correlation between the personality traits and the anger levels of elite class sportsmen who do martial arts sports. The State-Trait Anger Style Scale and Five-Factor Personality Inventory was administered to a total of 174 athletes aged 16 and above who compete in the branches of taekwondo, judo and wrestling and have participated in the season 2008-2009 Turkey Championship and national team camps. In data analysis, the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient has been estimated, the t-test, kruskal wallis and analysis of variance have been done. Version 11.5 of SPSS statistical package software is used while carrying out all these calculations.According to the findings obtained, there is negative correlation between extraversion, one of the factors of the Five-Factor Personality Inventory, and the inward-directed anger. Additionally, the amiability/compatibility factor (agreeableness) is negatively related with constant anger, inward anger and outward anger which are the sub-tests of the anger test; and the correlation between the amiability/ compatibility factor and the anger control dimension is a linear and significant. Also in the same way, the self-control/responsibility factor is negatively related with the sub-tests of constant anger, inward anger and outward anger; and has linear, significant relation with the anger control dimension. It has been established that the emotional insatiability (neuroticism) factor has a linear relation with the sub-dimensions of constant anger, inward anger and outward anger; and has negative relation with anger control sub-tests. It is seen that the openness to development/experience factor is negatively related with the anger sub-test, while it has linear, significant relation with the anger control sub-tests. In terms of branch and demographic variables, there are significant relations.
