Özet (EN)
Assessment Of Chronic Renal Disease Awareness İn Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Referred To Primary Health Care Purpose: Type 2 DM prevelance is increasing rapidly worldwide. Type 2 DM causes CKD in patients over the years. This study aimed to evaluate how much knowledge they know about CKD before the CKD process begins in patients with Type 2 DM. It is planned to investigate how patients with knowledge of the subject learn the information and how much the role of family physicians in this regard. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was carried out in Manisa Muradiye Family Health Center. The number of samples in our study is 376. The data collection process is done in the time period of between June-October 2019. A 21-question survey was used as a data collection tool, which was prepared by examining the literature. Results: 62% of the participants were female and 38% were male. Most of the participants were identified as primary school graduates (61.7%). Of the patients, 48.9% were obese, while only 9.9% were at normal limits. 8% of those surveyed are morbid obese. 72.3% of our patients have additional diseases in addition to type 2 DM. In our study, as the level of education and the duration of diabetes increased, our patients awareness about the fact that diabetes causes CKD (p<0,05) also increased in statistically significant manner. 77.4% of our patients surveyed knew that diabetes causes CKD. Only 13.6% of them learned this information from the family physician. Conclusion: In our study, it was found that longer duration of diabetes, higher level of education, the state of being in the invasive treatment phase are associated with proportionally increased levels of awareness of the fact that diabetes causes chronic kidney disease. In addition, contrary to what we expect, most patients are aware that type 2 DM causes CKD. The rates of learning this fact from family physicians were found to be low. In this context, efforts must be exerted to raise the level of DM-related CKD awareness among primary care physicians and patient oriented health training programs should be organised as well. Key Words: Primary health care institutions, Diabetes Mellitus, Chronic Kidney Disease awareness
