The Ottoman Empire in the First World War and the French public opinion

The First World War is one of the historical events that deeply affected not only years it was but also periods following it. One of the most important reasons for the emergence of this incident is the competition between the industrialized states in colonial areas. When we look at France and the Ottoman Empire in particular, it is a state that experienced this competition especially with the Great Britain. However, when the war broke out, France took part on the same block with Britain and the Ottoman Empire sided with Germany which had emerged as a great rival to Britain and France. Yet, France was the state that most profoundly affected the Ottoman Empire in its westernization and modernization efforts. Even in the First World War, the French ecole had a very important influence on the elite ruling class and intellectuals in the Ottoman Empire. When it came to the First World War, fronts where the Ottoman Empire fought and problems that encountered found place itself in the French press and public opinion; these news from many channels reached the Ottoman public opinion and other places where Muslims lived. In this period, it is understood that a very lively press life in France played a strong role in the formation of public opinion. It can be also said that incidents and criticisms that revolve around the triangle of politics, public opinion and the press have often influenced diplomacy and international relations. For this reason, how diplomacy carried out by the Ottoman Empire in the process leading up to the war, the fronts in which it took part during the war and the economic and social events were treated by the press that constituted the French public opinion is the field of this study.
