Abstract (EN)
When the First world war started, the Ottoman Empire was weakened militarily. Although the Ottoman Empire remained neutral for a while, it went to war with Germany to preseve its existence and established an allience with Germany on August 2 , 1914. The expectation of Germany from this alliance was that the British colonial forces coming from far East on the western front were prevented by the Ottoman state in the Suez Canal. The first attack on the channel took place on February 23, 1915 and it failed. The Ottoman Empire had to retreat. The year 1915 was spent to remedy deficiencies and to prepare for the new attack. In 1916 a second channel experdition failed because of not going as planned. Thus, channel expeditions ended in 1916. We are also in this context, examined the Suez Canal, which had military and commercial importance for England and the Ottoman Empire, in the fronts of the Ottoman Empire during the First World War, as well as the reflections on the Ottoman press and the Egyptian issue in the newspaper Ikdam. Our research, includes both foreign news and the writings of Ikdam writers about the situation of Suez Canal in the First World War and the events in Egypt. In addition to the newspaper's vievs about the subject was also tried to be evaluated.
