ABSTRACT THE CASIMIR EFFECT BETWEEN TWO PARALLEL PLATES IN A FIRST QUANTIZED MODEL AYSEVIL SALMAN M. Sc. in Physics Adviser: Asst. Prof. Dr. Melike B. YÜCEL April 2005, 43 pages In this work, we fundamentally used the work "the some radiative processes in electrodynamics in a model in which electron and photon are first quantized" studied by Yücel and Ünal (2002) and discused the Casimir effect between two parallel plates. Searching Casimir effect between parallel plates with this model gives a new idea about the reason why Casimir effect and energy occurs. KEY WORDS: First quantization, vacuum fluctuations, zero point energy, vacuum polarization, photon wave function, electron wave function, photon propagator, electron propagator, radiative processes, electron and photon interactions, pair production, pair annihilation Commitee : Asst.
