The relationship between the ratio of free beta HCG and PAPP-A MoM values in the first trimester screening test with perinatal outcomes

Subject: To investigate the relationship between maternal free β-hCG and PAPP-A MoM values ​​in the first trimester screening test and their ratio with perinatal outcomes. Material and Method: Free β-hCG and PAPP-A MoM values ​​in the first trimester screening test of 670 pregnant women who applied to our outpatient clinic for first trimester screening test in the last 3 years, birth weeks, newborn birth weights, APGAR scores at 1st and 5th minutes, hospitalization in NICU Needs, umbilical vein blood gas pH values, perinatal complications of pregnancy were investigated in the database and evaluated retrospectively. Results: When the patients diagnosed with IUGR during pregnancy were compared, PAPP-A MoM values ​​were found to be significantly lower than the pregnant women without IUGR. (p=0.01) The β-hCG MoM values ​​in the first trimester of the pregnant women with placental invasion or localization anomaly were significantly higher than the pregnant women with normal placenta. (p=0.03) The serum free β-hCG MoM value and free β-hCG MoM/PAPP-A MoM ratio of the pregnant women included in the study who were pregnant with a female fetus were significantly higher than the patients who were pregnant with a male fetus. (p<0.01, p=0.01) Conclusion: In pregnant women with low PAPP-A in the first trimester, the risk of developing IUGR seems to increase in the advancing gestational weeks. It has been shown that the free β-hCG MoM value is low in the first trimester in women with placental anomaly or pregnant with a female fetus. Biochemical markers in the first trimester screening test seem to be useful in predicting perinatal complications and fetal sex, apart from aneuploidy.
