Abstract (EN)

The aim of this survey is to determine multigrade and split grade students' acquisition level of self confidence, charity, and susceptibility to innovation values in social studies curriculum with respect to teacher teacher views. Mixed method, where both qualitative and quantitative methods are used together, has been used in the survey. In the study, exploratory sequenced model, one of the mixed method models, has been used. In the quantitative part of the study, stratified sampling method, one of the random sampling methods, has been used and in the qualitative part of the study, maximum variety sampling, one of the purposeful sampling methods, has been used. Sampling of the qualitative part consists of 265 primary school teachers who taught 1st 2nd and 3rd grade students donwtown Bartın and in its boroughs in 2014-2015 educational year. The quantitative data of the study has been compiled with 'identifying the occurence level of self confidence, charity, and susceptibility to innovation values survey'. In order to get quantitative data, semi structural interwiew forms have been employed. Frequency, percentage, t-test , variance (Anova) analysis, Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis H tests have been used for the analysis of the quantitative data. Qualitative data has been analysed descriptively. By looking at the results of the study it can clearly be seen that the views of primary school teachers who teach 1st grade students at the schools with split grade classes depend significantly on the socio economic level variant of the schools they work in. At the schools with split grade classes, according to the variable of the school where the teachers who teach 2nd grade students graduated from, students' fulfillment levels concerning the acquisitions of self confidence and susceptibility to innovation values showed significant difference in favor of the teachers who graduated from educational institutes/teacher training colleges.A significant difference, in favor of the split grade classes, has come out in the fulfillment levels of the acquisitions related to susceptibility to innovation values in first grades whereas a significant difference, in favor of the split grade classes, has come out in the fulfillment levels of the acquisitions related to all the three values in second grades in the comparison phase regarding the fulfilment levels of the acquisitions related to self confidence, charity, and susceptibility to innovation values of the students in multi grade classes and split grade classes. Moreover, it has been concluded that split grade students have had better fulfillment levels of the acquisitions related to self confidence and susceptibility to innovation values because of the fact that they have had better access to the resourches, more aware parents and a wide variety of out of school activities, when compared to multi grade class students who have been exposed to the negative aspects of the practices employed in schools with multi grade classes
