Abstract (EN)
Bisphenol-A (BPA) has vast applications in the world, causing a damage to endocrin system and disrupting human health in various aspects due to high exposure. Annual production of BPA in the world is around 1.7 billion kg on average. It is produced by companies such as Dow, Bayer, Shell, Mitsubishi, Mitsue and ShinNihon in countries such as Germany, Netherlands, Japan and America. BPA is mainly used in combination with other chemicals to manufacture plastics and also used as an industrial monomer in the production of epoxy resins and polycarbonates as well as a raw material in food and drink packaging. BPA food contamination usually occurs due to contact of food stuff and BPA containing packaging. As a result of contaminated food consumption, it is finally transfered to human bodies. Mankind may encounter BPA associated problems during their whole life time starting from intrauterine life and considered to be the period when the influence of the infancy period is highest, that influence decreases as age progresses. The BPA exposure may be analyzed through serum, blood and urine samples. The estrogenic activity of BPA was first noticed by Dodds and Lawson in 1936 and demonstrated the primary affects to the endocrine system. This endocrin damaging chemical has many affects on the activity of endogenous eustrogens and the androgen system. BPA, also may play a role in thyroidhormone disfunctions, central nervous system function disorder and immunesupres. In this study, production, usage, physical and chemical attributes, food transition and human transition via food, environmental transition and transition to living beings body caused by the production, metabolism, elimination from the body and general toxicologycal effects and alternative materials that can be used instead of this chemical, removal methods, legistative regulations, measures and general information about Bisphenol-A has been investigated.
