Transition periods in bitlis (Birth-marriage-death)

In this study, transitional periods for all humans (birth-marriage-death) in Bitlis have been classified, analysed and compiled from verbal and written sources. Transitional practices and beliefs carry an intangible cultural heritage. This heritage, which is not written that is condemned to disappear, includes thousands of years of cultural codes. In this context, it is pointed to save this cultural heritage in the memory of humanity without disappearing. Knowledge about the historical and geographical location of Bitlis, the purpose and significance of the study, methods and techniques, and problems encountered while collecting the data from the field, and solutions are given in the introductory part of the study. In the first part of the research, the theoretical framework of transitional periods is specified and transitional periods are discussed as an individual and society in transition periods, the ritual in transition periods and cultural change in transition periods. The role of the social actor and society and the effects of society on the individual are discussed under the title of individual and society in transition periods. Under the title of ritual in transition periods, the role of rituals in transition periods and the origin of rituals are discussed. Under the heading of cultural change in transition periods, the effects of socio-cultural changes on transition periods and the organisation firms, which is emerged the result of this change are analysed. In the second part of our study, practices and beliefs associated with birth in Bitlis are addressed. The practices that took place before, during and after the birth are discussed sequentially under each heading. The practices and beliefs were compared with the practices and beliefs in different regions. In the third part of the study, the practices and beliefs related to marriage in Bitlis were discussed. In this section, examples from different regions are given, and also similar and different practices, which are related to marriage, are emphasised. In the fourth part of our study, the practices and beliefs that are found in the Bitlis region, which is the last of the transitional periods, were classified as pre-death, the sequence of death and post-death. Furthermore, practices and beliefs related to death are explained with examples from different regions. In the last part of the study, the practices and beliefs in the transition periods of Bitlis were analysed by the semiotic method.
