Abstract (EN)
With the increasing global population, sustainable agriculture has become one of the most significant goals of agricultural production today, encompassing environmental, economic, and social dimensions. In this context, developing innovative methods that ensure the conservation of natural resources and enhance productivity is of critical importance. This study aims to examine the potential use of frass derived from Hermetia illucens, the black soldier fly larvae, as a fertilizer in sustainable agriculture. The effects of black soldier fly fertilizer (BSF frass) obtained under suitable conditions were analyzed on lettuce (Lactuca sativa), basil (Ocimum basilicum), sweet basil (Ocimum gratissimum), and okra (Abelmoschus esculentus). This application, conducted for the first time in Turkey, demonstrates that this insect-based product offers an innovative solution both economically and environmentally. This method, which aims to reduce the adverse impacts of chemical fertilizer use in agricultural production, also contributes to the circular economy. Thus, frass plays a key role not only in agricultural practices but also in waste management. Considering Turkey's growing population and diminishing natural resources, the significance of this study becomes even more pronounced.
