Özet (EN)

In this thesis, the electricity generation capacities of different algae species were investigated using single and double chamber biophotovoltaic cell (BPVC). For this purpose, the electricity generation capacity of Chlorella Vulgaris, Chlorella protothecoides, Chlorella sp., and Spirulina sp. was determined. The highest power density was obtained with Spirulina sp. in both single (air cathode) and double chamber BPVCs. The maximum power density obtained for single and double chamber (BPVC) with Spirulina sp. were 277,86 mW/m2 and 217,33 mW/m2. The other algae species exhibited high power density compared to the literature. The maximum power density of double chamber BPVCs were 142,28 mW/m2, 170,66 mW/m2 and 247,06 mW/m2 with Chlorella vulgaris, Chlorella sp. and Chlorella protothecoides, respectively. The maximum power density of single chamber (air cathode) BPVCs were 87,08 mW/m2, 68,38 mW/m2 and 103,01 mW/m2 with Chlorella vulgaris, Chlorella sp. and Chlorella protothecoides, respectively. SEM results showed that a dense biofilm layer was present on the anode electrode surface of BPVCs.
