Investigation of the methylene blue adsorption capacities of biomass wastes

This study investigates the effectiveness of an adsorbent material derived from organic waste in removing various colors from an aqueous medium, using Methylene Blue (MB) dye adsorption. Organic wastes such as tree leaves, banana peels, lemon peels, and pomegranate peels are used. After being washed, these materials are dried and subjected to size reduction. No chemical treatments are applied. The efficiency of MB removal is examined by varying parameters such as initial dye concentration (10–1000 mg/L), temperature (5°C, 25°C, and 40°C), contact time (0, 2, 5, 10, 20, 30, 45, 60, 90, 180, 240, 300, 360, 420, 1440 minutes), and adsorbent amount (30, 50, 100, 250 mg). A UV spectrophotometer set at a wavelength of 665 nm is used for measuring MB concentrations. The adsorption capacity (qe) and efficiency (%) values are determined by observing the concentration changes over time in the dye solutions. This study provides insights into the optimal conditions for dye removal using the organic wastes as adsorbents and demonstrates their potential as effective and environmentally friendly adsorbents.
