The role of ghrelin in overweight and obesity

Özet (EN)

In the current study, the main goal was to search in the change of the metabolic functions in overweight and obese people by taking ghrelin, glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and VLDL with the activities of ALT, AST, and ALP as parameters in the study. Forty people were inserted to each of the three groups of the study (control, overweight, and obese) with matched age and different body mass index according to their category. The obtained results showed a significant reduction of ghrelin in obese and overweight compared to control. Moreover, the ghrelin level was significantly lower in obese compared to overweight. Glucose level was increased in obese compared to control and overweight. The levels of triglycerides and VLDL were increased significantly in obese and overweight compared to control. Moreover, the levels of the last two parameters were significantly higher in obese compared to overweight. The cholesterol and LDL levels were significantly higher in obese and overweight compared to control. Nevertheless, HDL level was decreased in obese and overweight compared to control. The activities of ALT, AST, and ALP were increased significantly in obese compared to control and overweight. Clearly, obesity induce significant change on the metabolic functions in people.
