Biopolitics and the expression of desire in art: Understanding resistance through qualitative analysis of artworks

With this study, it is aimed to analyze the determined artwork by using qualitative research methods and to make sense of the positions of emotions, desires and forms of feeling in art within the framework of biopolitics research. In this context, it is aimed to understand how desires and forms of feeling can become a form of resistance in Jean Genet's novel "The Thief's Diary". The reason for choosing Jean Genet's novel "The Thief's Diary" as the data to be analyzed is that Genet effectively conveyed the worlds of meaning, emotions and desires of marginalized bodies along with biographical elements. In addition, the study aims to examine the relationship between the aesthetic and the ethical, and to create a narrative of art and the sociology of emotions. In this study, which utilizes qualitative research methods, the Case Study design was used and Literature Review and Document Analysis techniques were used as data collection techniques. Qualitative Content Analysis technique was used as the data analysis technique and the findings obtained were collected and interpreted under various themes and sub-themes. As a result of the analysis, the 'Desires and Emotions Theme' and the 'Biopolitics, Art and Resistance Theme' were created and the codes were classified under various categories. Thus, based on these findings, it was concluded that emotions, ways of feeling and desires can come together with the aesthetic and create a potential for resistance.
