The Byzantine central administration: Protocol, officials,ceremonies

The Byzantine Empire was founded by a Roman commander of pagan origin in the 4th century and was destroyed in the 15th century during the reign of an emperor who was a Greek-speaking, orthodox Christian and raised in the palace. During this period, several significant changes occurred in the empire. In this research, the Byzantine civilization and the changes which occurred in the empire were examined the framework of central administration, titles and ceremonial tradition. The elements of the central administration and the details of the ceremonial tradition, as two areas where the effects of these changes are directly seen, provide invaluable information about the form and content of these changes. Thanks to the legacy of the byzantine richly literature, it is possible to obtain very detailed information on both these elements and the ceremonial tradition. In terms of its focus on Constantinople, the capital of the empire, this study also provides information about the city's religious and official buildings and the changes that took place in the city.
