The results of maximally levator resection in our blepharopitozis cases

Purpose:To indicate the results of maximal levator resection of blepharoptosis with poor levator function.Methods:Twenty two eyes of 20 patients with poor levator function were underwent maximal levator resection by anterior dissection at Dicle University Medical Faculty Eye Department from January 2009 to December 2009.Before surgery lid margin were pointed in all cases,%2 lidocain was injected to the incision area and waited 7 minutes for reduce bleeding and facilitate dissection of tissues.To gain good eye margin we closed skin in orderly medial ,nasal and temporal part of lid with 4 sutures.Lower part of skin were sutured to orbicularis muscle,levator aponeurosis and then they were sutured to uper part of skin.Results:Twenty eyes of 18 patients(%91) we got good results.Postoperative lid margin assimetry was not seen non of our patients.At follow-up time from 3 months to 1 year no complication was seen.Two patients with failure results had very poor levator function(2mm) ,6 months later frontalis suspension with silicon rod was applied these two patients.Conclusion:Maximal levator resection is effective and safety surgery which has good anatomical and cosmetic results in patients with unilateral blepharopitosis with poor levator function.
