Each human kidney weight 150- 160 gr and is surrounded with a fibrous capsule. Almost all kidney tumors are primary tumours. It is believed that 3 % of adult cancers are composed by kidney tumors. These tumors are seen in male patients 50- 70 yrs old. 90 % of malign kidney tumors diagnosed in male patients, are caused by tubular epitelhelial cells (1).In the diagnosis of kidney tumors, the biological behaviour of the tumor, the relationship between the proliferation in the tumor cells and the tumor grade often cause difficulties. This, in turn, causes ambiguity in prognosis and difficulties in the medical treatment after nephrectomy. Previous studies have shown that using only grades, phases, microscopic variations, DNA ploidy, and the size of the tumours may not give sufficient results to determine the progress of the illness. In those studies, a lot of immunohistochemical determiners have been used to determine the biological behaviours of tumors.50 cases with renal cell cancers were selected among the archives materials and examined in the present study. The correlations between the variables such as gender, age, patological stage, the size, the grade and morphological types of the tumors, and KI67 proliferation index and CD117, COX-2 were examined in the study. The grading of the tumors were determined according to the Fuhrman nuclear grading system. The phases of the tumors were measured using 2002 TNM staging system. Different types of statistical tests were used in the current study, such as Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U. In addition, correlational analysis and test were used to see the relationships between the variables.A triple contrastive test was used to examine the relationships among the variables such as KI67, CD117 and COX-2 immunohistochemicals. The results showed that there were no significant differences among the variables. However, the results of double contrastive tests revealed that there were significant relationships among the COX-2-Kİ67 and Kİ67 ?CD117. The results of the correlational analysis indicated that there were no correlations between the grade, size, and different types of the tumors and KI67, CD117 and COX-2 expressions.According to the findings of the same analysis, there was a high correlation between the grade and stage of tumors. In addition, no significant correlation was found between the age of patients and tumor grades.In the light of the obtained results, it can be suggested that while K167 and COX-2 expressions can play an important role in the prognosis of clear cell carcinoma and papillary renal cell carcinoma, KI67 and CD117 expressions can play an important role in the prognosis of clear cell carcinoma and multilocular renal cell carcinoma.It was striking that three immunohistochemical markers used in this study had little or no expression in chromophobe renal carcinoma, which was not consistent with the prior studies. Therefore, further studies are needed to confirm this.
