Özet (EN)

Research interest has burgeoned on the effects of Boreout. Boreout syndrome has been conceptualized as the opposite of burnout syndrome with similar outcomes, characterized with boredom, crisis of meaning and crisis of growth at work. The absence of meaningful task and too much free time are some of the antecedents of boreout. Drawing on conservation of resource (COR) theory, this dissertation diagnoses the relationship between boreout, work engagement, and job performance. In addition, the mediating role work engagement and moderating role of gender was examined. Structural equation modeling (SEM) in IBM SPSS AMOS program version 21 was used to test the hypothesized model. Results from SEM revealed that boreout influences work engagement negatively, boreout does not influence job performance, work engagement influences job performance positively, work engagement does not mediate the relationship between boreout and job performance, gender moderated the link between boreout and work engagement, and the link between work engagement and job performance. The outcomes of this study provide several insights for practitioners striving to favorable workplace climate. These outcomes denote that the negative impact of boreout can be abated if workplace planning, placement of employees in the right departments and service standardization are taken into consideration by practitioners.
