ABSTRACT PhD Thesis INVEST I GATON OF FLOW IN SUDDEN EXPANSION AND SUDDEN CONTRACTION PIPE FLOWS USING NUMERICAL METHODS İhsan DA?TEKİN Fırat University Gradual School of Natural and Applied Science Department of Mechanical Engineering 1994, Page: 177 This study contains numerical prediction of pipe flows especially in sudden expansion and sudden contraction flows using digital computer. Laminar steady-state Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible fluid based on new solution algorithm SIMPLEM in axsyrnmetric and planar gometries were solved. Non-staggered grid system for solutions has been used, integrating partial differential equations over a finite control volume algebraic finite-difference equations were obtained and using three diagonal matris algorithm with iterations were solved. The calculations in these fittings for various diameters ratios and for various Reynolds numbers have been made. In order to check the validity of numerical solutions, results were compared with numerical and experimental solutions of available previous studies. Besides, some new results which are not available in literature have been presented.
