Investigation of the effect of boron on lipid profiles of pregnant rats during fetal development

Abstract (EN)
The fetal period is the last part of the pregnancy and investigating the effects of some chemical substances in this period is very important in terms of how these substances will affect the offspring. The aim of this thesis is to determine the effect of boron (boron free, low, marginal, and normal amounts) on the lipid profile of pregnant rats during fetal development by in-vivo. In the study, totally 30 female rats, 2 weeks of age were used. Negative control, positive control (untreated feed), boron free diet plus 2 μ B / ml by gastric gavage in normal group, boron free diet plus 0,3 μg B / ml by gastric gavage in the marginal group, and boron free diet plus 0, 04 μg B / ml by gastric gavage in low group. The rats were divided into 5 equal groups. 25-30 IU pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG) was administered to female rats fed with boron-containing diets for two weeks. After 24 hours, 30 IU human serum gonadotropin (HCG) was administered the females and they were put together with male rats to mate. After mating on the 14th, 17th and 20th days of gestation, the blood of pregnant rats was collected to obtain serum. Serum cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglyceride, and glucose levels were measured spectrophotometric ally using commercial kits. Cholesterol values were higher in control negative group at 14th day than control positive, low, marginal and normal groups and the difference between these groups was significant (p˂0.05). On the 14th, 17th, and 20th days of gestation, glucose values were lower in control negative group than control positive, low, marginal, and normal groups and the difference between these groups was significant (p˂0.05). As a result, the findings of the thesis show that the effect of boron in the fetal period is limited on blood lipids but plasma glucose levels were reduced.
