Industry buildings in Boyabat’s traditional architecture: Mills and Şamlilar paddy factory

During the history of human beings, the traditional production methods and productionbuildings which reflect the progress of the technology and industry are abandoned and by thetime they started to disappear. Because of this, very little of them reached to us and constitutethe subject of the industry architecture.Mills are one of the oldest traditional production buildings. Nowadays, there are very littlesamples of the active mills left. They are named according to their power supply. Handmill,mill working with the power of animal or human, watermill, windmill and mils working withthe power of motor are formed according to their using type.Boyabat is known by its production of paddy and because of its water resources, progressedits industry and formed its traditional production architecture by these specifications. It isfixed that there are not any kind of performed researches on the mills in the city of Boyabatproducing according to the traditional methods and are being used until nowadays. Because ofthis, the mills around Boyabat are searched, their systems are examined and tried to solve allthe systems of them by documentation. At the examined watermills it is seen that, the actionis supplied by the horizontal or vertical water wheels. Depending on the used types, flourmills, dink, dibek are fixed.At the rural area most of the abandoned mills are ruined. Such buildings in the city are beingrenewed and going on with their work as factory of rice (paddy) or factory of flour. However,renewing made unconsciously, causes to disappear such cultural inheritance. So as, to transferthese cultural values to the future generation the particular identification and culture must beprevented and the people, public body and establishments must be rendered conscious.The working principles of the mills which are inspected with the aim of preventing and theproblems with changings are being related with the sample of aml lar Paddy Factory and thecity of Boyabat.
