Study of validity and reliability of bracken basic concept scale-rivised test

The purpose of this study is to study on the validity and reliability of Bracken Basic Concept Scale-Revised for 3,4,5 age groups. The sampling of the study consists of three formal and three private preschool which are under the National Ministry of Education and also three preschool of public foundation, all located in Ankara and totaly 300 children of 3,4,5 age groups. BBCS-R is applied on the children ıncluded ın the sampling and also Personal Information Form is filled to obtain the information about the child and the family. For calculation of the reliability of scale, the reliability coefficient of Kuder Richardson-20 (KR-20) is found as r = .98. By using Pearson Correlation Coefficient, the correlation between subtest and total test is observed and the inner consistency of the test is found as high. In the validity study process, the validity of contents is observed by the experts? thoughts and also using t- test, it is looked for whether the observed difference between two groups which properties already known is statistically meaningful or not. Also, for the validity of test scores, by using one-way analyse of variance (ANOVA), the test scores is compared due to age groups. In order to define the source of the difference (variance) occured at the end of Anova test, the Sheffe test is applied. The findings which obtained during reliability and validity study support the BBCS-R as reliable and valid. The BBCS-R test total score, SCR score and subtest total score of 3,4,5 age groups of children having preschool education are compared due to gender, age and attendance to school. vi While the effect of gender factor on the concept development of children has not found meaningful, it is observed that age and attendance to school affect the cocept development. The determination of concept development of children in the preschool period will help us to give necessary support to them in early period. Thus, the precautions which support the children?s concept development should take place in the preschool period.
