Abstract (EN)
SUMMARYDETECTION OF ANTIBIOTIC SUSCEPTIBILITY AMONG BRUCELLASTRAINS BY DIFFERENT METHODSBrucellosis, which is an endemic infectious disease, still affects a widepopulation in the middle East and our country. There are several problems in theBrucellatreatment of the disease because species are intracellularmicroorganisms. In order to prevent serious complications and relapses, we haveto use combined antibiotherapy that can penetrate into the intracellulercompartment. In this study we aimed to detect the antibiotic susceptibilities of 50B.mellitensis strains which were isolated from the blood samples of patients withbrucellosis, originated from Afyon and surrounding area, who is dealingstockbreeding, by different methods. In vitro susceptibilities of six differentantibiobitics Brucella strains against were investigated with using three methods;agar dilution, microdilution and E test. Then the results were evaluated in term ofcorrelation between each otherEach accordance was detected as between microdilution and agar dilutiontests %100, between agar dilution and E test %100, between microdilution and Etest %100, and between three tests %100, for streptomycine, ciprofloxacine, doxycycline and trimethoprim/sulphametaxasole. The accordance for rifampicinebetween microdilution and agar dilution tests was %78, between agar dilution andE test was %82, between microdilution and E test was %84 and between the threetests was %74. The accordances for azithromycine were decected as, betweenmicrodilution and agar dilution, between agar dilution and E test, betweenmicrodilution and E test and between the three tests were %100, %96,%94 and%94 respectively.According to these results we concluded that E test is more practical and canhelp to lead the treatment against brucellosis in a short time, despite there is nointernational standartization about the methadology and intervals of antibioticsusceptibility.Key words: Brucella, agar dilution, microdilution, E test.
