Abstract (EN)
Aim: Laboratory parameters such as white blood cell (WBC) and C-reactive protein (CRP) are used to support the diagnosis and evaluate the treatment response in brucellosis, which is an inflammatory disease. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the role of new inflammatory biomarkers -Decoy Receptor 3 (DcR3), Lipopolysaccharide Binding Protein (LBP) and Spingosine1 Phosphate (S1P)- in the diagnosis of brucella. Materials and Methods: The study included 50 patients with brucellosis who were admitted to the Dicle University Medical Faculty Hospital Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology service or outpatient clinic between 01.08.2021 and 01.12.2021, and 30 healthy individuals as the control group. The blood samples of the individuals were taken into biochemistry tubes and centrifuged, their serums were separated and stored at -80ºC. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method was used in the study. Serum DcR3, LBP, S1P levels were determined using commercial kits Human DcR3, Human LBP, Human S1P (Sunred Biological Technology, Shanghai, China) with BioTek ELx50 Microplate Washer and BioTek ELx800 Microplate Reader (BioTek Instruments, Inc. USA). Results: DcR3, LBP, S1P values measured in Brucella patients were found to be statistically significantly lower than the control group (p=0.000, p=0.000, p=0.001). There was a positive correlation between DcR3, LBP and S1P values measured in the patient group. There was no statistically significant correlation between DcR3, LBP, S1P levels and WBC and CRP levels. Conclusion: DcR3, LBP and S1P, which are recently discovered biomarkers discovered may be useful in diagnosing brucellosis. To our knowledge, this is the first study regarding the role of these biomarkers in the diagnosis of brucellosis. In this respect, our findings are important. Based on our study, further prospective studies are needed to clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of DcR3, LBP, S1P in the diagnosis of brucella.
