ABSTRACTMonasticism is a form of monastic life characterized by solitariness. Monks re-tired from the world into solitute. They live labour apart from all intercourse with it andin complete isolation.The birth of monasticism in general and of eremitism in particularis the desire to consecrate one?s whole life to religius experience .So, monasticism re-garded as the purest and most perfect from of a life consecrated to God. Monks living amore austere life in the world, and during Vassa, the season of the rains it cumbent uponthem to remain in a definite place on a permanent buildings and hermit sensible of thedangers resulting from this inthe pendence, would submit himself to the direction of an-other, whom he regarded as his Spiritual father so, colonies of hermits were formed un-der the direction of a head to whom the others rendered obedience.Many of these ascetics entered the monasteries, a number of monasteries, re-ceived oblates, children consecrated from an early age by their parents to the monasticstate. Hence monasteries were established. Nevertheless, even in the early age of monas-ticism, we have instances of the attemt to group certain monasteries together under acentral authority, Pachomius, e.g., formed is monasteries in to a real congregation.The greater number of monasteries had the same custom under one form or an-other . Monasticism thus an integral part not only of Christianiy spirituality but of vari-ous forms of Buddhism spirituality as well is it an original institution?This is a questionon that has often been discussed but monasticism can not be regarded as an institutionbelonging exclusively to Christianity, although.
