Effect of alcohol-gasoline blends on the engine performance and exhaust emissions on the spark ignition engines

Özet (EN)

An experimental investigation of alcohol blended gasoline fuels is presented in this work. The alcohol component of the blends consisted of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), methanol, ethanol. This blends used in the present study were a single cylinder gasoline engine with using of an electrical dynamometer and an exhaust analyzer. The variables that were continuously measured include engine rotational speed, engine torque, engine power, specific fuel consume, O2, CO, CO2 and NOX emissions.During variable load tests, the results indicate that CO and CO2 levels in the gasoline engine exhaust are reduced in the proportion of %32,3-%88 and %17-%39 respectively, while with the operation on alcohol gasoline blends. NOX emissions with alcohol gasoline blends are higher than with gasoline.Key Words: Gasoline Engine, Alcohol Fuels
