iA STUDY ON TRANSFER OF THE SPARK ENERGY TO GASES AND TOTHE BODY OF SPARK PLUGS IN A VARIOUS SPARK PLUGS USEDIN SPARK PLUG IGNITION ENGINES(M.Sc.Thesis)Mustafa KAHYAGAZI UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYSeptember 2006ABSTRACTIn spark plug ignition engines, the most important features of theignition are the mixture organization and providing the ignition from theoutside by spark plugsIn spark plug ignition engines, since the ignition is done by sparkplugs, the energy provided by the ignition system is transferred to themixture molecules through the spark plug electrods and so a highenergy flame is obtained.Increasing the rate of the spark energy transferred to the fuel moleculeswill increase the performance and the efficiency of the engine.During ignition of mixture, the use of spark energy of spark plug toignite fuel molecules between electrodes without loss, will increase theperformance and the efficiency of the engineIt is determined that spark plugs which are having platinum thin centralelectrods give more energy to the gases between electrodes than thenormal central electrods spark plugs.iiIncreasing spark plug gap increases the a mount of energy transferredto the gases.Sciense code : 708Key words : Spark plug, dıstribution of energyPage number : 80Adviser : Prof. Dr. M.
