Abstract (EN)

Rapidly spreading communication and transportation facilities in the globalized world the most important problems are again experienced in the transportation area. Transportation can be by airline, railway, seaway, however; highway has the biggest portion of all. Because of this the issue that should be considered first is the solution towards the highway transportation problems. The study towards this issue is carried on in education, social, psycho-technical, and technical areas. The studies in the technical field in time consist of especially artificial intelligence methods such as artificial neural network and fuzzy logic and different kind of `intelligent? systems are made.In this study, the physical and geometrical features of the road having effects on the driver speed such as average road gradient, average radius of turn, type of road coating; and traffic jam in the road and vehicle types such as lorry, automobile and bus were analyzed and driver speed estimation model was generated through using Mamdani fuzzy logic methods. Physical and geometrical information about roads which was obtained with accurate measurements by the General Directorate of Highways had been applied to the model and obtained results were compared to the vehicle speeds in those roads. Average error rates were determined as 2.22 % for lorry, 2.22 % for bus and 2.21 % for automobile.
